Police tracked down a 13-year-old girl who ran away with a 22-year-old man she met on the Internet and sent her back home to Long Island.
John Vertrees traveled to New York and climbed into the 13-year-old girl’s bedroom without her parents' knowledge on Wednesday and stayed for a few hours, police say.
Two days later, the teenager climbed out of her window and met Vertrees in a taxi at about 4 a.m., authorities say.
Soon after, detectives got wind the pair may be on a train out of Rochester en route to California. Amtrak police stopped the train before it could leave the upstate station Friday and took both individuals into custody, police say.
Suffolk County detectives flew to Rochester and sent the girl back to Long Island, where she was reunited with her family Saturday morning.
Rochester police charged Vertrees with unlawful imprisonment. Suffolk cops were expected to file additional charges.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Vertrees had a lawyer.
