Authorities said the school didn't have metal detectors.

A 16-year-old student at a New York City high school faces charges that he brought a rifle and a silencer to school in his back pack.

Authorities say the teen was arrested Friday after initially fleeing from school safety agents at the Legacy High School for Integrated Studies in Manhattan.

    He later turned himself in.

Police said the rifle's barrel had been sawed off to make it easier to conceal. Authorities say the .22 caliber was not loaded.

The school does not have metal detectors, which has some concerned parents in the area calling out for change.
