A Somerset County man accused of stealing more than $33,000 that was donated to his son after a deadly fire used some of the money to pay for escorts, police say.

Tubal Eduardo is charged with theft by failure to make a required disposition of funds.

Eduardo and his 4-year-old son, Noah, survived a fire that killed his 31-year-old girlfriend and two of her children in Manville in 2007.

The school where Tubal Jr. attended kindergarten collected more than $38,350 for him.

During his trial on Thursday, a detective said Eduardo used $7,100 on an escort service.

Eduardo's attorney said he used his son's money to pay fines, living expenses and to buy a car.
