There's a call for quick federal money to help state infrastructure.

Dozens of construction workers in vehicles including payloaders, dump trucks and cranes staged a protest convoy down the Long Island Expressway, pressing for federal infrastructure dollars.

Members of the Long Island Contractor's Association began the convoy Monday outside the offices of Long Island Congressman Steve Israel. They then drove about nine miles, ending the convoy in Melville, outside the offices of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.

LICA wants Gov. David Paterson to create the position of "infrastructure czar."

That person would be responsible for expediting New York's request for federal infrastructure money.

An aide to the governor says the administration shares the group's concerns.
