85 Sacred Heart Students Cited for Underage Drinking at Connecticut Bar: Police

The bar, in Bridgeport, is where authorities said that a man met a student before sexually assaulting her last month

Dozens of students at a Connecticut college were charged with underage drinking at a bar, following a raid there tied to the sexual assault of a student last month, authorities said.

Eighty-five Sacred Heart University students were arrested after the raid at the Golden Star Cafe in Bridgeport Tuesday night, authorities say. Fifteen other people were also busted on underage drinking charges.

The bar's owner was also cited for several liquor law violations after the raid.

Sources told NBC 4 New York that the bar was a hotspot for underage students.

The raid came hours after the arrest of 39-year-old Alfonso Reid, who authorities said sexually assaulted a 19-year-old Sacred Heart student he met at the bar on March 30.

Authorities allege that Reid offered to give the student a ride home from the bar, but instead took her to his house, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Reid is being held on $750,000 bond. Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.

A part-owner of the bar declined to comment on the case to NBC Connecticut on Wednesday.
