Concrete Workers Threaten Strike at WTC Site

Concrete workers at the World Trade Center site are threatening to walk off their jobs again.

A possible strike would not affect the Sept. 11 memorial opening next month on the anniversary of the terror attacks.

Members of the Cement and Concrete Workers District Council are negotiating a new contract, which expired in June.

Workers say they're competing for wages and benefits against workers with lower-paying nonunion contracts.

Union members walked out earlier this month for three days, but agreed to return and extend their contract through Tuesday along with talks.

The union had no comment, nor did the Cement League contractors association.

A walkout would slow progress at One World Trade Center and the new trade center transit hub.
