Fans who want tickets to New York Comic Con in the fall will have to pass through a mandatory "verification" process, designed so scalpers cannot profit from the festival.
Anyone who wants to attend the comics and pop culture convention will have to provide a name and email address between May 20 and June 13, according to New York Comic Con's website. This year's Comic Con will take place Oct. 6 to 9 at the Javits Center.
Once the verified ticket seeker's information is provided, event organizers will send out unique links by email 48 hours before tickets go on sale. The verified fans can then buy tickets through that link, according to the website.
"Through this Fan Verification process, any known scalpers and resellers as well as anyone who shows signs of supervillain activity (creating false emails, creating multiple profiles, etc.) will not be verified and will be unable to purchase NYCC Tickets," the website says.
"This is being done with you in mind and the hope that more of you will get the opportunity to experience NYCC," the statement reads.
A maximum of four tickets will be sold to each verified fan, the website says.
New York Comic Con says it is the biggest such event of its kind on the East Coast and tickets usually sell out the same day they go on sale, according to reports.
