Photographs of Brian Dwyer, a University at Albany sophomore from Long Island, appeared in local papers and on TV news broadcasts Wednesday, and police asked the public to call them if they knew who he was.

State police investigator Tom Peters says numerous students recognized Dwyer and phoned to turn him in.

Dwyer was arrested Thursday at his college dorm room and later released on an appearance ticket for October 31st in Albany City Court.

Investigators say he stole two sets of police lights from the cars, one of which was recovered on Long Island.
