A coastal storm is approaching and expected to deliver more snow to the tri-state region on Monday, according to Storm Team 4.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the five boroughs, as well as Nassau, Westchester, Fairfield, Middlesex and Monmouth counties from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. A winter storm warning is in effect for Suffolk County during that time.
Expect a light, but steady, snowfall on Monday, with the snow starting sometime around dawn and picking up later in the morning, before tapering off ahead of the evening rush, Storm Team 4 says. The storm's center is far off in the Atlantic Ocean, so the storm will hit Long Island first and then make its way to the city and New Jersey.
There is a potential for blizzard conditions on Long Island, where sustained winds of 30 mph are possible. The twin forks could see 3 to 6 inches of snow, maybe more, especially further west towards Montauk. Wind gusts were already at 40 mph in Montauk Monday morning.
New York City and the surrounding suburbs can anticipate 1 to 2 inches of snow on Monday, as can the shores of New Jersey. Areas further inland in the Garden State will likely see less than an inch, Storm Team 4 says. Highs will be in the low to mid 30s for most of the area throughout the day.
There’s also a risk of flooding along the coast Monday as the high tide rises anywhere from 2 to 2 ½ feet above normal in the morning and early afternoon. A coastal flood warning is in effect for Middlesex and Monmouth counties. A coastal flood advisory is in effect for NYC, Long Island, and Westchester and Fairfield counties.
The storm is expected to move out of the area by the Monday evening rush and leave behind a cold breezy night.

However, the next snow-maker arrives on Tuesday, when the inner parts of New Jersey that were spared Monday could see 1 to 3 inches of snow. A dusting of the white stuff is expected in NYC and on Long Island Tuesday.
There will be some lingering flurries on Wednesday ahead of an arctic plunge on Thursday and Friday. High temperatures will drop from the 30s into the 20s — a chill that will persist throughout the weekend. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 20s.
