Video Shows Coast Guards Rescue Fishermen From Boat

Dramatic video shows crews in a Coast Guard helicopter rescuing fishermen from their boat after it ran aground off a New York City beach Thursday.

Footage from inside the rescue helicopter used to get crew members off the Carolina Queen III off of Rockaway Beach shows a pair of guards using a harness rig to ferry people on the stuck trawler to the beach.

In the footage, the guards can be heard communicating with one another as they make precise movements to get a rescue basket overtop of the boat. After they make contact with the crew on board, they slowly move the rescue basket over the windswept surf before dropping the basket on the beach.

The helicopter made the maneuver seven times to pluck each of the Carolina Queen's crew onto dry land.

The rescue came after a Coast Guard boat was sent to rescue the crew members, but because of storm-swept waves topping 12 feet, the 25-foot vessel capsized. No one was hurt and all of the guards aboard were able to swim to safety.

The capsized Coast Guard boat eventually drifted to shore and was secured.
