Rebuttal Starts in Cops' Rape Trial

Prosecutors are calling rebuttal witnesses to try to discredit claims made by a New York City police officer charged with raping a woman he was supposed to help.

Thursday's witnesses weren't involved in the December 2008 encounter at the woman's Manhattan apartment. But they contradicted things New York Police Department Officer Kenneth Moreno described in his testimony this week.

Among them was an account he gave of waiting 20 minutes for an ambulance for a dying man in September 2008.

A paramedic testified Thursday the ambulance was there in 2 minutes.

Moreno and partner Franklin Mata have pleaded not guilty to rape and other charges. Mata is accused of acting as a lookout while Moreno raped the intoxicated woman after they had escorted her home.
