Junkyard Fire Behind Citi Field Alarms Mets Spectators

A junkyard fire behind Citi Field caused some alarm for Mets spectators waiting to get into the game Friday evening.

The fire on 38th Avenue and 126th Street in Corona, Queens sent up thick plumes of black smoke, slowing traffic on nearby streets and highways. The smoke could be seen from as far as New Jersey.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

The city's Office of Emergency Management asked residents to keep their windows closed as a precaution.

The Mets are playing the Phillies at home Friday night.
