NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray Appoints New Chief of Staff After Noerdlinger Controversy

New York City's first lady is appointing a new chief of staff after her prior top aide took a leave.

Chirlane McCray announced Friday that Roxanne John will fill the role vacated by Rachel Noerdlinger. Noerdlinger took a leave of absence last month after some damaging disclosures about her personal life.

A Department of Investigation probe found that she omitted key information on her background check.

John was appointed executive director of Gracie Mansion, the mayoral residence, earlier this year.

She will continue in that role and make a combined salary of $200,000.

Gray most recently worked as vice president for marketing at the Institute for International Research, a provider of trade conferences and expositions, according to City Hall. She earned a B.S. in economics from Fordham University, and has lived in Brooklyn since she was a child.

Jackie Bray will be McCray's deputy chief of staff. Bray previously worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

McCray is a highly visible face of City Hall. Mayor Bill de Blasio calls her his closest adviser.
