Man Robbed of $1,600, Punched in Chinatown Building: Police

The victim was taken to the hospital with a fractured knee and bruises to the eye

Police are searching for a robber who punched a 65-year-old man in a Chinatown building, causing him to fall down a staircase, and stole his wallet containing $1,600 and credit cards.

The robber had followed the victim to a fourth-floor staircase in a building in the area of Madison and Pike streets at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, then demanded money from him, police said. 

When the suspect punched the victim, the victim fell down the stairs, suffering a fractured knee and contusion to the right eye. 

The suspect then ran away.

The victim was taken to New York Downtown Hospital.
