Children Try to Rob Woman in Central Park: Police

Police are looking for two children who allegedly tried to rob a woman in Central Park Monday.

The 38-year-old woman was walking in the park in the area of 5th Avenue and 107th Street at about 8 p.m. when a girl, about 12 to 14 years old, approached her and demanded her cell phone, police said.

When the woman refused, a boy, about 10 to 11 years old, approached her and tried to grab her purse, according to police. The woman managed to hold on to her pocketbook, and the boy and girl ran away.

"People robbing people, at 10 years old? That's crazy," said Berle Easton, who lives near the park.

"It makes me wonder who's at home wondering where they are," said David Chapman, a parkgoer.

Police are also looking to identify a third person seen with the suspects in a photo after the incident. She's described as about 14 years old and was seen wearing a purple shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
