Brooklyn Tech Student, 14, Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Home

A 78-year-old woman has been charged in the fatal accident in Kensington

A 14-year-old Brooklyn Tech student walking home Thursday evening was hit and killed by a 78-year-old driver who fled the scene before she was caught by police later, authorities say.

Lynn Reynolds is charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury and with several traffic violations in the hit-and-run that killed Mohammed Uddin at Caton Avenue and East Seventh Street in Kensington at about 5 p.m., officials say.

Uddin was crossing East Seventh Street in a crosswalk just around the corner from his house when he was run down by a maroon Chevrolet Impala that was making a left turn onto the road from Caton Avenue.

The car took off after hitting Uddin, who suffered head and body trauma. The teen was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Uddin, a ninth-grader at one of the city's top specialized high schools, moved to the U.S. with his family 10 years ago from Bangaldesh and dreamed of becoming a medical specialist, his uncle said.

"He's very bright, very intelligent, very, very good and very gentle," Mizanur Rahman told NBC 4 New York through tears Friday.

Reynolds was taken into custody shortly after the boy was hit and was charged early Friday.

Her attorney Barry Deonarine told reporters after her court appearance, "Our heart goes out to the family of the young man, I know that they're in pain tonight. But this is an accident. She did not commit a crime."
