Police in New Jersey are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to lure a boy into his van Friday.

The 13-year-old boy was walking home from his bus stop on Vista Drive in Mount Olive on Friday when a man in a van pulled up alongside him, according to police.

The man told the boy his parents were involved in an accident and said he would drive him to the hospital.

The boy refused, and the man drove off.

Neighbors in the area applauded the boy for "doing the right thing."

"He's an example for all the kids," said Joanna Joaquin, a parent. "You just run away. You run home. You get to the closest house you can, and you call the police."

Larry Thomas said he was "angry someone would have the gall to do it in my neighborhood."

The suspect is described as being in his 40s, with a buzz cut. Police said the van was white, with no side windows or markings, and resembled the size of a Honda Odyssey.
