“Highly Explosive” Old Chemicals Detonated at L.I. School

The chemicals were discovered by an employee of the Stony Brook school

Police say they have detonated "highly explosive'' old chemicals found at a private Long Island school.      
Newsday reports that the chemicals were discovered by an employee of the Stony Brook school.

The worker notified authorities, who responded to the school on Chapman Parkway at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.      

Suffolk County police say the chemicals were inside a chemical lab and had been in the school for more than 30 years.
