Man Slides Chained Bike Up Pole to Steal It: Police

The suspect used a ladder to get the bike high enough to free it from the pole, video shows

Police are investigating a bizarre bicycle theft on the Upper West Side.

Surveillance video captured a man sliding a chained bike up a pole and lifting it out before taking off.

Police said he'd taken a ladder from in front of a home on West 76th Street and climbed it to get the bike high enough to free it from the pole.

It happened at about 5 p.m. on May 26.

The suspect is described as a tall man with a large build, balding with a mustache. He appears to be about 40 to 50 years old, police said.
