Alleged Central Park Robbers Who Threatened Girl With Stun Gun Arrested: NYPD

Police say they've arrested the two suspects who allegedly threatened and robbed a 17-year-old girl inside Central Park last week.

Police said a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were sitting in Hecksher Playground the night of Saturday, May 9 when they were approached by a group of about 15 teens, police said.

One of the teens, a girl, got into an argument with the 17-year-old victim, threatened her with a stun gun and then punched her in the face, police said. Then a male suspect grabbed the girl's purse and took her phone.

The whole group then fled the park with the victim's iPhone.

Police announced Tuesday they had arrested a 17-year-old boy from Pleasantville and a 14-year-old girl on robbery, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon charges in connection with the case. The girl -- who is seen on surveillance video wearing her hair in a bun -- was also charged with assault.

The robbery, in addition to another mugging in the park the same weekend, prompted police to increase patrols.

"We are concerned because it's not something we see in Central Park," NYPD Chief of Department James O'Neill said at the time, adding that police did not believe the two attacks were related.

In the other attack the night of Sunday, May 10, a strange man walked up to a woman and grabbed her purse; no injuries were reported. There has been no arrest in that case.
