Police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to sexually assault a Broadway understudy on her way home early Tuesday after a night of drinking at a midtown bar.

The 30-year-old woman told police she believed she met the man at the bar and he offered to help her home, law enforcement officials said.

As they walked near Central Park around 2:45 a.m., the woman told police the man started kissing her, pulled down his pants and jumped on top of her, officials familiar with the investigation said.

She hit him with her purse, according to police, and the man grabbed her purse and ran away.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect (pictured below) or has information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
