Man Arrested on DWI Charge in Long Island Accidents

Police said the 40-year-old driver crashed into several vehicles, including one while traveling the wrong way

A Suffolk County man was arrested late Saturday night, accused of driving while intoxicated after he crashed into several vehicles, including one while traveling the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway, police said.

Luis Quintanilla, 40, of Central Islip, was driving a vehicle north on Route 111 at Spur Drive North at about 10:50 p.m. when he rear-ended a car, which in turn struck another vehicle, police said.

Quintanilla fled the scene of the crash and entered the westbound Southern State Parkway, driving in the opposite direction, according to police. His vehicle crashed head-on into a 1998 Saturn.

The drivers struck in the accidents were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Quintanilla is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of driving while intoxicated at First District Court in Central Islip Sunday. Attorney information was not immediately available.
