Is it possible to get money by fighting a parking ticket even if it's not dismissed?

A New York company is offering people $10 dollars every time they contest their parking ticket by phone.

Parkingticket.com said its new interactive phone service -- 1-888-NYC-PARK -- gives New Yorkers an opportunity to fight their parking tickets entirely over the phone just by entering the ticket information using the phone's keypad.

If your ticket is not dismissed or reduced, the company said it will pay you $10, up to a maximum of $100 per customer.

The phone system is available in English and Spanish, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The site's secret?

"We employ retired Parking Violations Bureau judges, police and traffic agents who know the secrets of how to get a ticket dismissed," the site claims. "You will receive clear instructions and a customized dismissal request letter to mail to the city."

If the site helps you successfully fight a $115 ticket, their fee is half that cost or $57.50, which they tout as a savings of  $57.50.  It's hard to argue with that.

Facing a dire budget crisis, the city has hired 793 new ticket agents,  said Glen Bolofsky, the president of parkingticket.com.

"We have decided to pay people because frankly, the city takes advantage of the public's lack of time and knowledge," Bolofsky said in a news release. "There's no doubt that paying people money to fight their tickets will motivate them. In addition to fighting their ticket on principle, getting paid to do it makes it worth while."

Will getting the $10 check from parkingticket.com be as easy as advertised?  Let us know.

  • Leslie Tuesday, Jan 6 at 6:48 PM FLAG COMMENT I second Ron's comments. They beat my ticket fair and square.
  • Leslie Tuesday, Jan 6 at 6:46 PM FLAG COMMENT Well, I second Ron's comments. I live in Bayridge and they came out to our neighborhood assocation in October and let us in on a few secrets to avoid getting tickets - and even corrected some erroneous information given to us by the City. I had my ticket dismissed using them - it was all done online except for the letters they gave me had to be mailed in because the city does not accept evidence attachments online - so t ... MORE >

But I can tell you that parkingticket.com doesn't just talk the talk, they walk the walk. They came to our Merchants Association meeeting this past summer, helped us to better understand the process and even helped some of our guys for free. They're good guys and I'm glad they have c ...
