Infant Among 9 Hospitalized for Possible Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

A 1-week-old baby was among nine people taken to the hospital after showing signs of carbon monoxide poisoning at their Rockland County home, authorities said.

Family members say the mother awoke to feed her infant in the middle of the night, recognized something was wrong and called police to her home on Beckett Court in the Village of Chestnut Ridge early Thursday.

"She woke up all of a sudden and she called her father, she doesn't feel too good," said family friend Yehuda Rosenberg. "And then another few members started having symptoms."

Officers found she and the eight others in the home had been experiencing headaches, nausea and dizziness -- all symptoms that could indicate carbon monoxide poisoning.

They were taken to Westchester Medical Center and are expected to survive. The victims range in age from 1 week to 42.

Rosenberg said they were all fine and getting better.

The cause of the apparent gas leak is under investigation, but initial signs indicate it may be connected to problems with the furnace. .
