Car Runs Over Metal on Grand Central Parkway, Bursts Into Flames, Killing Passenger

A car burst into flames on the Grand Central Parkway Tuesday, killing a passenger and injuring the driver and another passenger, authorities said.

The 2010 Toyota Highlander was going eastbound on Grand Central when it ran over a piece of metal in the roadway, according to police. The metal ignited the gas tank and the car erupted in flames. 

The driver, a 26-year-old man, and a passenger, a 25-year-old woman, were able to escape from the vehicle and run away. They were taken to NY Hospital Queens in stable condition.  

The backseat passenger, a 50-year-old man, was found dead in the car after firefighters extinguished the fire. 

The victim has been identified as Dale Tulloch of Yonkers.

Authorities say no other vehicles were involved.
