A Queens man was charged Sunday with driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of a fiery car crash that left a father and his two young children dead on Long Island.
Oniel Sharpe Jr. was driving west in a BMW on the Southern State Parkway when he rear-ended a Toyota carrying around 1:30 a.m. in North Babylon, causing the Toyota to burst into flames, according to state police.
Ancio Ostane, 37, the driver of the Toyota, his 8-year-old son Andy and 4-year-old daughter Sephora were killed in the crash. His wife, Lucnie Bouaz-Ostane, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, managed to escape with minor injuries.
"I don't have a future," she said later to NBC 4 New York. "I don't have a reason to live, to go to work."
Sharpe fled the scene, but was subsequently arrested. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an auto accident.
Ancio Ostane was a mathematics professor, his wife said. Her daughter was about to enter kindergarten and her son had recently received his first Holy Communion at their church, she said
