A 16-year-old boy died and three of his teenage friends were hurt when the car they were in hit a tree and flipped over in Long Island early Friday, police said.
Police believe the 17-year-old driver lost control of the 2002 Toyota while he was driving north on Gray Avenue in Medford shortly after 1 a.m. The car veered into a tree and overturned.
David Ross, a passenger, was ejected from the car and died. The 17-year-old driver, a 17-year-old passenger and a 15-year-old passenger were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The 17-year-old boy who had been behind the wheel was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and the car was impounded for a safety check.
