Cab Jumps Curb, Six People Hurt

Several pedestrians were hurt in the East Village early Sunday when a cab jumped a curb -- possibly to avoid a driver who ran a red light, police said today.

Police said a cab jumped the sidewalk at First Avenue and 3rd Street around 1:30 a.m. and hit four people, a 71-year-old man, a man on a bike and two girls in front of the coffee shop.  The older man is in critical condition, cops said.

The driver of the cab and the passengers were also hurt, police said.  All six people were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Authorities are looking into reports that the cab was trying to avoid a driver who ran a red light.
