Cab Driver Shot Dead in Bronx

Second livery driver killed in within a week

Just one week after a 46-year-old livery cab driver was shot and killed in the Bronx, operators are saying not again.

At about 10:30 last night, Jose Pena Seguiera, 42, was shot once in the back of the head as he drove a passenger along Wales Avenue and East 145th Street in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

The passenger/gunman fled the scene, according to police. Shortly after the incident police apprehended a 31 year-old man about a block away inside St. Mary’s park carrying a firearm.

Kiss Car Company, which operates the cab, told NBC New York that Seguiera, of the Dominican Republic, was a married father of five and family members have gathered outside company headquarters all morning looking for answers.

“He was a good father, hard working, easy going, good husband,” said his wife, Natalia Espinosa, as she broke down weeping at her home. "That bastard... he killed him!"

Sources at Kiss say the cab did have a camera inside but its not clear if it was working.

Police are looking into whether robbery was the motive, and sources say charges are pending.

Last Monday, another cab driver, 46-year-old Ndiaye Amadau, was fatally shot in the chest in his car in the Bronx.
