Body of Missing College Student From Connecticut Found in South Africa

George Washington University says the body of a student who went missing while swimming in South Africa on Aug. 30 has been found.

Vice Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Peter Konwerski said in an email that the body of 19-year-old Nicholas Upton of Redding, Connecticut, was found Friday. Konwerski says Upton was last seen Monday off the coast of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa.

Upton's death was also reported on a GoFundMe page that was raising money for his parents to go to South Africa to help search for their son.

The university said earlier this week that Upton had been studying in South Africa and was traveling during a break from classes.

Upton was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and the university's rowing team.
