It may be called Giants Stadium. But for Bruce Springsteen fans, it's the house that "The Boss" has rocked to capacity over the years.
Springsteen told fans at the Izod Center on Thursday that he and his "wrecking crew," the E Street Band, will be the final musical act before the stadium is demolished after the 2009 football season. Three shows are scheduled on Sept. 30, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. Tickets will go on sale June 1.
The E Street band will be back l “to say goodbye to old Giants Stadium,” said Springsteen, according to The New York Times. “Before they bring the wrecking ball, the wrecking crew is coming back!”
Over the course of nearly three hours, Bruce and the boys performed a 20-song show and six encores Thursday, drawing raves reviews.
"There was no slow warm-up start," said the New York Post's Dan Aquilante. "Instead, Bruce hit the stage at a full gallop with a burn-down-the-house version of "Badlands." Dressed in black jeans, vest and T-shirt, Bruce worked the crowd from the moment he stepped into the lights, pacing the wide-open stage as if it were too small to contain his or the E Street Band's enthusiasm."
The Star-Ledger, which included a set list in its review, gushed "It was one of those incredible nights of seeing Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey where people are going to say years from now, "I was there at the Meadowlands for that May 21, 2009 show."
They'll return to the Izod Center on Saturday.
