Scissors-Wielding Man Shot, Critically Wounded by Cop: Police

    A man is in critical condition after being shot by a police officer for threatening to hurt a woman with a pair of scissors inside a Brooklyn apartment, authorities said. 

    Police said the officer was flagged down on Fulton Street by a woman reporting an emotionally disturbed person inside the second floor at 48 Fort Greene Pl. in Fort Greene. The officer went with the woman into the home, where the 40-year-old man was holding a pair of scissors to his own throat, according to police. 

    The man then threw the woman to the ground and threatened to stab her with the scissors, police said. The officer fired two shots, hitting the suspect in the torso.

    The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. The 25-year-old officer was transported to Methodist Hospital for tinnitus.

    The woman was not hurt. 

    Police are investigating.
