Police are investigating the death of a Brooklyn man whose body was found along the shore in Sheepshead Bay as a homicide, NBC New York has learned.

Sources familiar with the investigation say Timothy Murray, 28, appears to have been beaten to death and then dumped in the water. He had bruises on his abdomen.

A passerby saw the body and called police.

Detectives are looking into whether the man's death is linked to the stabbing of his brother, which happened at a soccer field Tuesday night in Gerritsen Beach.

Witnesses to the incident Tuesday tell detectives the dead man's brother was severely beaten and stabbed by at least three men.

The brother is at Kings County Hospital where detectives are interviewing him.

The investigation is ongoing.
