Police shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed his roommate and charged at officers with a large knife. Brynn Gingras reports.

A man who allegedly stabbed his roommate with a large knife, then threatened responding officers with the weapon, was shot and killed by police in Brooklyn Friday night, law enforcement sources said.

It was the second police-involved shooting in Brooklyn in as many days.

Law enforcement sources said the 29-year-old suspect stabbed the 53-year-old victim in the shoulder inside their apartment at 541 Court St. in Carroll Gardens at about 8 p.m. Police were called to the scene, where they found the victim outside the apartment building and the suspect next door, holding the knife.

When officers approached the suspect on the sidewalk, he refused to drop the knife and lunged at the officers, law enforcement sources said. Officers fired at him several times.

Kevin Galarza of Sunset Park said he heard two gunshots, then saw police swarming the scene.

"Four, five, six cop cars came down, rushing, but from all different areas, so by the time I got down here, everything was all shut down," he said.

The suspect was taken to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The victim was being treated for the stab wound to the shoulder.

Neighbors and restaurant patrons in the area said they were ordered to stay inside as police officers responded. John Reinhardt tweeted, "At dinner at Luna Rossa on Court Street. Cops shut it down, told us to stay inside."

He told NBC 4 New York patrons were eventually allowed to leave the restaurant but no one was being allowed back in.

Streets remained closed in the area and police presence was heavy as the investigation continued.

On Thursday, an armed 20-year-old man was shot by two officers when he allegedly fired at them.
