Pastor Joins Crowded NYC Mayoral Race as Democrat

A Staten Island resident and church pastor has joined the crowded field of Democrats seeking the party's nomination for New York City mayor.

The Staten Island Advance reports that Erick Salgado has raised just over $164,000 for his mayoral bid.

Salgado is a pastor of a Brooklyn church that serves 1,100 members in the tri-state area. He also founded a radio ministry, "Radio Cantico."

He defines himself as a "conservative Democrat'' and points out he is the only Latino seeking to run on that party's line. Former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion is seeking the Republican nomination.

Polls show City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leading the race for the Democratic nomination for mayor.

The primary is Sept. 10 and the general election is Nov. 5.
