Weekend L Train Suspensions Begins Friday Night

Commuters who rely on the L train to get between some of Brooklyn's most popular neighborhoods an Manhattan will have to find another way to get around for the next five weekends.

Train service will be suspended between the Eighth Avenue station and Lorimer Street every weekend for the next five weeks starting Friday night, the MTA says.

The MTA says the suspensions are needed to complete track work to improve infrastructure on the line that services the ever-growing Williamsburg and Bushwick neighborhoods.

The suspensions will come on top of overnight weekday suspensions between stops at Eighth and Bedford avenues, which are expected to continue into May.

Shuttle buses will be ferrying passengers in Brooklyn between the Bedford Avenue and Lorimer Street stops and will run to the Marcy Avenue J and M train stop about 10 blocks to the south.

The M train, which normally terminates at Delancey Street - Essex Street on the weekends, will run to 57th Street in Manhattan for the next five weekends.

Gothamist reports that Uber will offer $5 carpool rides between Williamsburg and Manhattan during the shutdown.
