Man Savagely Beaten to Death in Park Slope

Group of men ambushed after scuffle in bodega

A Brooklyn man was beaten and stabbed to death in a vicious gang attack in Park Slope early Sunday morning, police say.

The man, identified as Alex Santiago, 22, who lives in Park Slope, was with a group of friends when a scuffle broke out in a local bodega, police said.

Santiago was with a group of friends at a bodega when a fight broke out with another group, cops said. After the scuffle, the other group left the bodega leaving Santiago and his friends alone, Santiago's cousin' Jose Arroyo, told the New York Times.

But the men however returned 10 minutes later in a black car, then jumped Santiago and his friends who were now standing on the 12th Street near Fifth Avenue, said Arroyo.

Santiago was struck on the head by one of the men with a crowbar and then stabbed three times.

Neighborhood resident Joseph Rivera tried to stop the attack but was pushed back by the attackers

"All these guys were just pounding on this kid... I got on the phone to call the cops and one of the attackers threw a crowbar that smashed the window next to me,” Rivera told the Daily News.

The 22-year-old was taken to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

A 20-year old man identified as Jonathan Burgos was also stabbed 20 times; he is in stable condition at Lutheran Hospital, police said. Another was slashed in the stomach and bludgeoned while two others suffered minor injuries.

The victims were targeted and had had other run-ins with their attackers, police sources told the New York Post.
