Lifeguards are warning swimmers about rip currents after a Brooklyn man drowned at Nassau County beach.
Long Beach police identified that man as 23-year-old Kashawn Carlos.
Carlos had gone into the water at Long Beach after 6 p.m. Saturday when swimmers were ordered out of the ocean because lifeguards are off-duty, police said. He was caught in a rip current and found about an hour later, police said.
Carlos was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 8 p.m., police said.
His friend, who was also caught in the rip current, was rescued by an off-duty lifeguard, police said.
The drowning occurred near the south end of National Boulevard in Long Beach.
