Man Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Granddaughter's Boyfriend: NYPD

An 81-year-old man suspected of killing his granddaughter's ex-boyfriend in Brooklyn has been arrested on a manslaughter charge, police say.

Nicolas Diaz turned himself in early Monday following the stabbing of 21-year-old Kevin Rivera, who has a child with Diaz's granddaughter. Authorities say the young couple split up recently.

Police say Rivera and the granddaughter returned home after celebrating their daughter's first birthday and started arguing; Diaz allegedly intervened in the argument and stabbed Diaz early Sunday.

Authorities responding to a report of a domestic dispute early that morning in Bushwick found the 21-year-old with a chest wound; he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to The New York Times, Rivera and the granddaughter dated for about three years. Family told the paper they started having relationship troubles after becoming parents.

Diaz is charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in Rivera's death. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
