A local college has launched a pilot program that allows undocumented Mexican restaurant workers to take classes.

New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn offers 15-week hospitality management training classes combined with English and math. Students will end up with a City Tech certificate that's also recognized in Mexico.

City University of New York Vice Chancellor Jay Hershenson said the program aims to head off an ``educational catastrophe'' among Mexican immigrants.

CUNY said the program is funded by a $100,000 grant from the Mexican government.
