Cop Patrolling Brooklyn Bridge Catches Tourist Climbing Cables: NYPD

An Argentinian tourist was arrested on trespassing charges after he was caught -- allegedly red-handed -- attempting to scale the Brooklyn Bridge, authorities say.

A cop on patrol on the Manhattan side of the historic span allegedly spotted someone trying to climb the bridge's cables at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the NYPD.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Jorge Arredondo, was arrested without issue at the scene.

Arredondo's arrest is the latest in a string of bridge breaches.

Last month, a University of Tennessee student was arrested after he posted a selfie from atop the span, and in November, French tourist Yonathin Souid climbed the bridge to take photos. Russian tourist Yaroslav Kolchin also climbed a beam last August. Both of the European tourists were sentenced to community service.

On July 22, 2014, two bleached-white American flags were found planted on the bridge span. Two German artists claimed they'd installed the flags as part of a project to celebrate the German engineer who designed the bridge.
