Residents in one Long Island town are calling over illegally converted apartments after two people were hurt in a deck collapse late last week.
Two people were hurt when a deck at a home in East Setauket collapsed Friday night. Authorities had said that the home appeared to have been converted from a large single-family dwelling into a set of apartments.
Authorities said that the party -- which was attended by as many as 400 people -- appeared to be celebrating move-in for Stony Brook University.
The home's owner told NBC 4 New York that four students had rented the home, including one who was his cousin.
But several residents said they think the home was another instance where a home was converted into an illegal boarding house for Stony Brook students.
Alan Steinbereg said that homes are being turned into apartment buildings because there isn't enough on-campus housing and called on the university to stop admitting more students than it can take.
"It's a nightmare for us," he said.

A representative for Stony Brook said that the university -- which has 25,000 students and 10,000 on-campus beds -- is building more dormitories and warning students to avoid illegal housing.
"The safety and security of our students is a number-one priority," the representative said.
