Toddler Struck by SUV in Bronx

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition

A toddler is in critical condition after he was hit by a car in the Bronx Tuesday evening, police say.

Witnesses said the 2-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk down Taylor Avenue with his teenage cousin at about 4:40 p.m. when the toddler suddenly became excited by an ice cream truck coming down the road.

The boy ran into the street, police said, and an approaching Ford Escape SUV being driven by a 73-year-old woman could not stop in time.

The driver remained on the scene as emergency responders arrived. The boy was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition.

There have been no charges filed against the driver.
