Bronx Teacher Arrested for Breaking Up Fight With Belt

A Bronx teacher was arrested for hitting two students with his belt as he tried to break up a fight, police said.

Pedro Molano, 54, discovered the brawling duo in Benjamin Franklin Public School 55 in Claremont Thursday, took off his belt and whipped both of the students as he attempted to intervene, officials said.

It wasn't clear how old the students involved in the fight were.

Molano was charged with two counts of assault. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

A Department of Education spokeswoman told the Daily News Molano was reassigned from the school and faced possible further disciplinary action pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
