2 Homes Destroyed, 13 Hurt in Large Bronx Fire

Thirteen people, including 11 firefighters, were hurt in a large fire at a Bronx home that displaced four families Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

The four-alarm fire broke out on the 4500 block of Hill Avenue in Wakefield at around 2 p.m., according to the FDNY. It was under control by 3:30 p.m.

One firefighter was taken to Cornell Medical Center in serious condition for first-degree burns to the neck, officials say. Ten other firefighters had minor injuries and were taken to New York Hospital along with two injured civilians.

Chopper 4 over the scene showed the fire appeared to spread from one two-story house to another.

The Red Cross is assisting the four families displaced in the fire.
