Shot Driver Crashes in Front of Bronx Courthouse, Dies: NYPD

A wild drive sparked by a shooting ended outside the Bronx County Courthouse Monday, police say.

A suspect, possibly on a bicycle, pulled up to a driver at 164th Street and Sherman Avenue in Concourse and shot through the window, police said. The wounded driver, later identified as 46-year-old Lee McClendon, of the Bronx, took off, heading down Sherman and ending on 161st Street outside the courthouse.

"All I see is a red car speeding through, lost a little control, hit the gate. The car went up a little bit," one witness recounted.

Elizabeth Elder said it looked like "someone was chasing him, he was trying to get away from someone, that's how it looked."

Witnesses saw the 46-year-old driver trying to get out of the car, then collapsing. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the neck. He later died, officials said. His name has not been released.

Police have not identified a suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
