Man Critically Injured When Thrown From Vehicle in Bronx Crash: Police

A man thrown from a vehicle was among a half a dozen people sent to the hospital after two cars crashed early Saturday morning in the South Bronx, police said.

The crash occurred at about 2:20 a.m. at the intersection of Jerome Avenue and East 172nd Street, according to police. Four people were riding in a miniivan involved in the collision, while two were in a black livery cab.

Witnesses said a minivan ran a red light on Jerome Avenue and slammed into the ivery cab. The minivan then hit a tree, preventing it from hitting a community center.

A man sustained severe injuries after being thrown from a vehicle after the crash, police said. He was one of two people taken to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in serious condition, according to the fire department.

The other occupants of the vehicles were also taken to the medical center with minor injuries, the fire department said.
