Wild Chase Ends in Crash Near Fordham University

A wild police chase in the Bronx ended with three crashed patrol cars, four officers hurt and three men arrested, police say.

An NYPD patrol car was traveling near Hughes and Crescent avenues when the officers saw a car speeding north on Crescent Avenue at about 1 a.m., according to police.

The officers tried to pull over the vehicle, which had Pennylsvania plates, and the car took off.

It finally came to a stop at Belmont and East Fordham Road, right by the Fordham University campus. Witnesses said the driver tried to jump a curb to get away from police but ended up sideswiping two marked police cars.

One officer got out and fired his weapon; it's not clear where the shot was aimed or where it landed, but no one was hit, police said.

Three men inside the fleeing car, ages 19, 20 and 21, were arrested, police said. Charges were pending.

Four police officers were taken to Jacobi Hospital with minor neck and back injuries from the impact of the sideswipe.
