NYPD: School Administrator Arrested on Sex Charges

Police said Tuesday that Joseph Ponzo was accused of fondling two young girls at the school.

An assistant principal at a New York City grade school has been arrested on sex abuse charges.

Police said Tuesday that Joseph Ponzo was accused of fondling two young girls, 10 and 11 years old, at the school.

School officials said the 59-year-old Ponzo had been an assistant principal at PS 106 in the Bronx since 2008.

Police said Ponzo grabbed at the girls' chests, over their clothing, in the school hallway. It wasn't clear why he did so, or whether there were other witnesses, but police said they launched an investigation and uncovered enough evidence to arrest Ponzo Tuesday.

The name of Ponzo's attorney was not immediately available. The Bronx District Attorney's office declined comment.
