Police: Killing in Brentwood Likely Gang-Related

Police on Long Island believe the killing of a man found beaten on a Brentwood street is likely gang-related.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini says the death of the unidentified 34-year-old man late Thursday night is being investigated as a homicide. He said police believe the assailant or assailants were members of a street gang.

But the commissioner says there is no indication the killing is connected to the deaths of four Brentwood High School students found slain last month.

Those killings, also believed to be gang-related, have led to an increased presence. He said "several individuals" have been taken into federal custody, but would not elaborate.

He termed the Thursday night killing a "disappointment" in light of the recent crackdown on gangs. Autopsy results are pending.
